CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was on Sunday admitted to Fortis Hospital Mohali on Sunday after he complained of uneasiness and high blood pressure during a function in Sangrur.
According to official sources, Mann had gone to Sangrur to participate in a Maha Shivratri programme along with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal and senior leader Manish Sisodia. Soon after the event, he felt discomfort and was rushed back to Mohali for medical evaluation.
Doctors at the hospital said the Chief Minister underwent a comprehensive clinical assessment and routine diagnostic tests. His vital parameters are stated to be stable, and he has been admitted for observation, primarily due to elevated blood pressure and exhaustion.
Sources said Mann’s official engagements were immediately cancelled following the health scare. He was scheduled to attend programmes in Fazilka and other areas, which have now been postponed.
This is not the first time the Chief Minister has been admitted to the same hospital since assuming office. In September last year, he was hospitalised for several days due to exhaustion, viral fever and electrolyte imbalance. During that period, he had continued to monitor official work from the hospital.
In another instance, he was admitted with an infection and kept under observation for a few days before being discharged. He has also faced episodes of fatigue linked to his hectic schedule and extensive tours across the state.
Officials have often attributed Mann’s recurring health issues to his demanding routine and frequent travel and back-to-back public engagements. Despite medical advice, he has continued to maintain a high level of activity, often attending multiple events in a day. His habit of drinking is also cited one of the reasons for high blood pressure.
Hospital authorities said there is no cause for concern and that the Chief Minister is under close monitoring by a team of doctors. He is expected to remain under observation until his condition stabilises completely.
