CHANDIGARH: Punjab cabinet which met here today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi today gave big relief to the urban and rural water consumers and levied a fixed monthly fee of Rs.50 across all categotiers.
Channi while addressing the press conference said that earlier water bills in urban and rural areas were charged at different rates as per slab and sixe of the plot. He said that now all consumers will pay Rs.50 per month. He also announced to waive off previous arrears of bills of all consumers. He said that power bill arrears of tubewells meant for public water supply in urban and rural areas have also bee waived off. He said that in future power bills of these tubewells would be paid by Punjab Government.
Channi said that his government was committed to privide free of cost water supply and sewerage facility to people of state. He said that Rs.50 fee has been imposed to fulfill center's directive to charge for these services to ger central grants.
