CHANDIGARH: The Election Commission of India today postponed the general assembly elections in Punjab and announced February 20 (Sunday) new date of election.
The ECI took cognizance of requests by various political parties to pospone the election from Feb 14 to Feb 20 in wake of Parkash Utsav of Bhagat Ravidass ji. Thounsands of Ravidass commmunity members from Punjab visit Varanasi to particvipate in week long celebrations held on Feb 16.
The ECI has issued a new election schedule. According to which notification for election will be issued on February 25. The last date of nominations is Feb 1. Date of scruitiny Feb 2, Date of withdrawl Feb 4 and date of poll Feb 20.
