PSSCC takes suo motu notice of JAC decision for barring admission of SC students in private colleges

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission, taking a suo motu notice of a media reports about decision of Joint action committee (JAC) of 1650 colleges and universities of Punjab not to enroll Scheduled Castes students in their college and universities, today marked an inquiry and ordered to file report before commission by October 13, 2020 by all means.

Divulging further, Commission Chairperson Smt. Tejinder Kaur told that it has come to the notice of the commission that JAC of 1650 colleges and 13 associations of Universities has issued statement in newspapers that they will not give addmission to schedule Castes students in their institutes. "This decision of JAC comes under the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and Section 4 (ZA) (D) of Amended Act, 2015.  She said that an inquiry has been marked in this matter to the Additional Chief Secretary, Social Justice and Empowerment and Minorities and Secretary, Higher Education, Punjab, who will submit report by October 13, 2020 after examining the matter.
