PATIALA: Engineers’ Day is an annual observance dedicated to honouring the contributions and achievements of engineers and in India it is celebrated since 1968 as tribute to the Indian engineer and Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Viswesvaraya.
At Sri Nagar Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was the chief guest at the function organized by JKEEGA. . The function was also addressed by Shailendra Dubey, Chairman AIPEF, Sanjay Thakur Sr. Vice Chairman from Maharashtra , Prashant Chaturvedi from Chhattisgarh , Pir Zada Hidayatulluha and Sachin Tickoo from J and K, and others.Chief Minister paid rich tributes to M Visevesvaraya and CM acknowledged the fact that engineering departments are very much sidelined in their share of recognition and Power engineers too bear the brunt of lack of acknowledgement by general public despite hectic round the clock efforts.
PadamjitSingh Chief Patron AIPEF said at a regional meeting held at Patiala on the occasion of Engineers Day that in the past engineers played a precious role and today controlling global warming is a major challenge before the engineers and for that nuclear power must be encouraged. The engineers paid homage to Sir M. Visvesvaraya, a legendary engineer and statesman , who is credited with many pioneering engineering feats. His innovative work in irrigation and infrastructure helped lay the foundation for modern engineering practices in India.
Shailendra Dubey, Chairman AIPEF said that the power engineers are the backbone of India’s energy transformation, driving the technical and innovative solutions. Their expertise in renewable energy, grid modernization, energy efficiency, and emerging technologies ensures a sustainable, reliable, and inclusive power ecosystem. The lack of due recognition for engineers in India, the call for an Engineering Commission underscores the need to address systemic challenges faced by engineers and elevate their role in nation-building, particularly in the context of India’s vision for Viksit Bharat .Engineers should be posted as administrative secretaries in technical departments.
AIPEF and other state constitutional bodies organized seminars, workshops across India to discuss recent advancements in engineering. Functions were held at Srinagar, Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) , Raipur (Chhattisgarh) , Lucknow (UP), Dehradun, Patiala, Hyderabad, Kerala , Chennai, Vijayawada, and other places, said V K Gupta. M Visveshvaraya groundbreaking contributions to the field of civil engineering, including the design and implementation of significant infrastructure projects.
