PHAGWARA: Punjab government, Principal Secretary Jails Mrs. Bhawna Garg has launched plumber and welding courses for skill development of prisoners at Central Jail Kapurthala on Tuesday.
On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal and SSP Gaurav Toora were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Secretary Jails said that “The purpose of starting these courses is to make prisoners capable of establishing self-employment by providing training in relevant courses so that they can join the mainstream of society again and lead a respectable life”. She said that ITI Kapurthala will conduct these courses in the jail and the Employment Generation Department will provide necessary guidance to the prisoners to establish self-employment after their release.
These courses will be of one year duration and in the first phase, 24 prisoners will be trained in plumber course and 20 prisoners in welder.
The certificate to the prisoners after completing the course will be given by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), which is recognized from all over the country and abroad.
Garg reviewed the efforts being made for the security and welfare of the prisoners in the Central Jail. Apart from this, She also gave instructions to ensure continuous health check-up of the prisoners.
On this occasion, Jail Superintendent Shyamal Jyoti informed the Principal Secretary about the steps taken for the welfare of the prisoners in the jail. Earlier, a contingent of Punjab Police gave a guard of honour to the Principal Secretary.
SDM Irwin Kaur, DSP Prabhjot Singh, District Placement Officer Varun Joshi and Principal Shakti Singh were also present on this occasion.
