PPCB and MC Sunam team seize three ton banned plastic carry bags

SANGRUR: Following the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, a special team, constituted on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Sangrur Jitendra Jorwal, seized around 3 tons of banned plastic carry bags from a warehouse located in Sunam Udham Singh Wala city. This operation has been carried out jointly by the team of Punjab Pollution Prevention Board (PPCB) and Municipal Council Sunam Udham Singh Wala.

While divulging details, SDO-cum-Assistant Environmental Engineer, PPCB Sangrur Vipan Kumar said that during the surprise raid conducted by the team at a warehouse, Suraj Enterprises, located on Patiala Road Sunam, as many as 119 bales weighing 2975 kg of plastic carry bags were found. He said that during the preliminary investigation, it has come to fore that these carry bags were brought from Gujarat and these were to be supplied to different places after being stored at this godown.

SDO Vipan Kumar said that under the guidelines of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Environment Minister Punjab Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, the Punjab government had regularly been enforcing the ban imposed on the use of single-use plastic goods. He added that strict action was being taken against those who were violating the ban orders.
