Pak-backed drug smuggling cartel busted in Faridkot; two held with 12.1Kg heroin

CHANDIGARH: In a two-week-long meticulously planned source-based operation against narco-terror networks amidst the ongoing ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Faridkot Police has dismantled an international drug cartel being operated by Pakistan-based smugglers with the arrest of the two key drug traffickers, and recovered 12.1 Kg heroin from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Tuesday.

Those arrested have been identified as Sukhpreet Singh, a resident of village Jhariwala in Faridkot, and Kadar Singh, a resident of village Waan in Ferozepur.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested persons were in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers, pointing to a larger transnational smuggling network. The illicit consignment, which was smuggled across the border, was recovered from Village Jhariwala, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Sadar Faridkot, he said.

The DGP said that a thorough investigation is currently underway to establish forward and backward linkages in this case to uncover the full nexus.

Sharing operation details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Faridkot Dr Pragya Jain said that acting swiftly on reliable inputs drug smuggling in the area, teams from Police Station Sadar Faridkot and Police Post Golewala, under the supervision of SP (Investigation) Sandeep Kumar and DSP Faridkot Tarlochan Singh, arrested both accused with 12.1 Kg heroin from near the house of accused Sukhpreet Singh in village Jhariwala, when they were on the way to deliver the consignment to someone.

She said that probe has found that Pak-based smugglers were using drones to deliver the large heroin consignments into Indian territory, which was being further supplied to other traffickers by the arrested accused persons.

The SSP said that further investigation is underway to identify other accused linked with Pakistan-based handlers, and raids are already being conducted to arrest them. More recoveries are likely in coming days, she added.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 212 dated 08.09.2025 has been registered under sections 21 and 23 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Sadar Faridkot.
