Officials who obstruct development works will not be spared: Navjot Sidhu

AMRITSAR: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President and Constituency Amritsar East MLA Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu while reviewing the ongoing development works in the Eastern Constituency at the District Administrative Hall today gave strict instructions to the concerned officers that no slackness would be tolerated in the development works. And officials who obstruct the work of the people will not be spared.

During the meeting Mr. Sidhu told the concerned officers in no uncertain terms that tenders for any development work should be issued only once and the officials who had repeatedly called for tenders would be examined as to why the time was wasted by repeated tenders.

Mr. Sidhu said that he would meet again soon and the accountability of the officials who did not utilize the funds would be fixed.

He said that no obstruction of funds was allowed by the government in the development works but some officials deliberately delayed the development works which was not tolerable.

He said that in the next meeting the officials should bring a report on where the work has stopped or why it has not started.

Mr. Sidhu said that first the beautification from Golden Gate to Hussainpura Chowk in Halqa East would be done and sand trolleys would not be allowed to stand anywhere along the way.

He directed the concerned authorities to start the work immediately so that it would have a positive impact on the outbound passengers. Mr. Sidhu asked the concerned authorities regarding the delay in the construction of street lights and the road on Mudhal Road in the Eastern Constituency to submit their written reply as to why the street lights have not been installed yet while full funds have been received. And similarly why the work on the main road has been delayed. He said that Rs.1 crore had been provided for street lights in Eastern constituency. But why the work of street lights has not been completed yet.

Instructing all the officers, Mr. Sidhu said that tenders for all the development works should be issued before the Code of Conduct comes into force and the development works should be carried out in a timely manner.

He said that special attention should be paid to the quality of development works and any kind of negligence would not be tolerated.
Addressing the meeting Deputy Commissioner Mr. Gurpreet Singh Khaira said that out of 265 works in Eastern constituency 29 works have been completed and 120 tenders have been issued and work on 116 works is in progress. He said that there was no dearth of funds for the Eastern constituency and funds had been allotted to the concerned agencies.
Prominent amongst others who addressed the meeting included Mayor Municipal Corporation Mr. Karamjit Singh Rintu, Chairman Municipal Improvement Trust Mr. Damanjit Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Ruhi Dugg, SDM Mr. T. Benith and Mr. Rajesh Sharma, Axian Mr. Inderjit Singh, SC of Municipal Corporation Apart from Mr. Mahajan, officials of various departments were also present.
