JALANDHAR: Shiromani Akali Dal today received a short in the arm when noted social worker and former Health official Dr. Lakhbir Singh joined the party in the presence of SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal here today.
Dr. Lakhbir Singh had retired as District Health Officer after serving the department for 29 years.
Welcoming him into the party fold, the SAD President said that he was pleased to learn that Dr Lakhbir's contribution to society especially in the field of food safety, blood donation, anti-drug campaign and as a COVID warrior had been appreciated at various levels.
Mr Badal assured Mr Lakhbir Singh that he and his supporters would get due respect in the party and he was confident that he would prove to be an asset to the SAD.
On the occasion, Dr. Lakhbir Singh said that he had joined the Akali Dal after being impressed by the pro-people and pro-Punjab ideology of the party. He said Punjab had witnessed fast paced development and progress during earlier stints of the Akali Dal government and he was hopeful that soon people would give a mandate to it to resume the journey of development where it had stopped seven years ago.
He assured the SAD President that he along with his supporters would take the policies and programmes of the party to every part of the state.
