AMRITSAR: At least 1430 students were awarded degrees during the 119th Annual Convocation of historic Khalsa College Amritsar (KCA) today. The students from 50 different streams of studies in graduate and post-graduate classes were bestowed the degrees and more than 60 meritorious students were honoured with medals and certificates at an impressive academic function.
Chief Guest at Convocation, Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) President and Khalsa University (KU) Chancellor Satyajit Singh Majithia coaxed the students to embark on new journey, conquer the world with abilities but simultaneously must stay rooted to vales and spirituality. “The challenges are global with technology posing new vistas of knowledge. Keep learning and growing. Kill the ego and almighty will help you reach newer heights”, said he.
He said success and happiness depends more on your attitude than on your aptitude. “So be persistent in the pursuit of success. Focus on the process. Do not be in a hurry to reach the destination, enjoy the journey”, said he. KCGC honourary secretary and KU Pro-Chancellor Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina who presided over the function also motivated the students and advised the degree holders to follow their dreams but remember the sacrifices made by their parents so never forget them and teachers in life.
Principal Dr. Atam Singh Randhawa read the College's progress report, highlighting the achievements in academic, sports and cultural activities. He also said that the College was proud to have been awarded A-Plus status by the NAAC and ICAR accreditation to B.Sc. Agriculture degree. KU VC Dr.Mehal Singh was honoured during the occasion for his contributions to the College during his tenure as Principal of the institution. Dean Dr. Taminder Singh Bhatia and Registrar Dr. Devender Singh were present.
KCGC vice president Swinder Singh Kathunangal, Joint Secretaries including Santokh Singh Sethi, Ajmer Singh Heir, Paramjit Singh Bal, Rajbir Singh, Gurpreet Singh Gill and Principals from various other Khalsa institutions, teaching and non-teaching faculty members of the college also attended the function. The proceedings of the Convocation were conducted in Punjabi to mark the International Mother Tongue Day.
