AMRITSAR: The crib scheme, launched by the district administration in 2008 with the help of the Red Cross to save the lives of unclaimed children, has so far succeeded in saving the lives of 195 children. On April 3, 2025, someone placed a newborn girl in the crib. The girl was immediately treated at the Bebe Nanaki ward of Guru Nanak Dev Hospital and is currently completely healthy.

Giving information in this regard, Deputy Commissioner Madam Sakshi Sahni –cum-President-Red Cross Society said that under the LAPA scheme, the process of sending the child to Swami Ganga Nand Bhuriwale Foundation Dham will be completed where, like the children sent earlier, after completing the process prescribed by the government, the organization will get the child adopted by the needy family.

The Deputy Commissioner praised the entire staff of Bebe Nanaki ward and gave her best wishes to this girl and made everyone aware of their responsibility to respect daughters so that daughters can also move forward without any fear.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the name of this girl has been named Sneha by the Child Protection Committee.
She said that while this unique initiative started with the help of the Red Cross Society is commendable for saving the lives of 195 innocent children, the fact that a large number of children have come to the crib so far, only girls, is a serious issue for the society. It is worth mentioning that the Red Cross workers get information about the child coming to the crib from the bell under the crib and they immediately provide medical assistance to the child from the nearby hospital. After this, in the hope of safe upbringing and a good future, the child is transferred to the Legal Adoption and Placement Agency, an institution declared by the government, from where the needy families adopt the child. So far, the number of children under the crib scheme has increased to 195.

She said that if any person wants to adopt a child, they can get their registration done through the online website www.care.nic.in. Mr. Samson Masih, Executive Secretary, Red Cross Society, said that so far 164 girls and 31 boys have come under this scheme.

Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Sakshi Sahni saw off this child Sneha from her residence in Ludhiana. On this occasion, the daughter of the Deputy Commissioner, Arna, and Neha of Red Cross were also present.
