CHANDIGARH: Congress MLA and former cabinet minister was today appointed President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) relieving Sunil Jakhar of his responsibilities.
Sidhu's appointment has come as a big setback for Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh who was opposing the appointment of Sidhu and a group of MLAs led by Sukhpal Khaira was also opposed to this appointment.
The AICC general secretary KC Venugopal who signed the orders issued by Sonia Gandhi has appreciated the services rendered by Sunil Jakhar.
The AICC has also appointed four working presidents to assist Sidhu. They are Sangat Singh Giljian, Sukhwinder Singh Denny, Pawan Goel and Kuljit Singh Nagra. The order also relieved Nagra from his current duties of general secretary incharge of Sikkin, Manipur and Tripura.
