AMRITSAR:Shiromani Akali Dal’s campaign in Amritsar East today received a big boost with residents of Muslimganj near Shivala temple, who had closed their doors to Pradesh Congress President Navjot Sidhu yesterday, today extending their wholehearted support to Mr Bikram Singh Majithia during his visit to the area.

The residents of Muslimganj not only profusely garlanded Mr Majithia by coming out in large numbers to greet him, but also made it clear that they had boycotted Navjot Sidhu to break his arrogance.

Mr Majithia was welcomed into the residence of Mr Shanky who had closed his doors to the PCC chief yesterday. Mr Shanky said “we had no option but to close our doors to Sidhu despite repeated entreaties by his team to greet Sidhu because the PCC chief had closed his doors to people of the area for the last eighteen years. This is why the entire mohalla decided to close its doors to Sidhu yesterday and refuse to greet him even though we were home”.

Other residents while speaking on the occasion said “we have all now decided to support Mr Majithia’s campaign wholeheartedly and this is why all residents of Shivala have come out to support him today. We will now work unitedly for Mr Majithia’s victory”.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Bikram Majithia said “in a democracy the people are supreme. It is unfortunate that Mr Sidhu has never respected the people of his constituency. He has hurt their sentiments not only by humiliating them when they approached him but also by ignoring the constituency completely. That is why they have decided to break his arrogance and make him realise that they can’t be taken for granted”.

Meanwhile Mr Majithia assured that he would take up all pending works of the area on a priority basis once elected to power. He also assured to revamp all civic amenities which were in shambles besides upgrading the infrastructure in the constituency.
