Media Certification and Monitoring Committee formed to monitor election expenses of candidates

AMRITSAR: District Election Officer cum Deputy Commissioner On the instructions of Gurpreet Singh Khaira a Media Certification and Monitoring Committee has been set up at the district level to monitor the expenditure incurred on media by the candidates contesting from 11 Assembly constituencies in the district. Has been turned on. Today, the chairman of the committee S. Gurpreet Singh Khaira visited the MCMC Center and inspected the work being done there. SDM Rajesh Sharma was also present on the occasion.

He directed that all the candidates should keep a close watch on the media including newspapers, radio, TV, e-papers and social media and if any candidate gets advertisement then he should be included in his election expenses.

The concerned Returning Officer should be informed immediately so that this expenditure can be included in his election expenses.

He said that for the advertisement in electronic media including e-paper and social media it was necessary to get the approval of MCMC and for this the room number 218 of the district administrative complex should be approached.

The committee will look into the script and after giving information about the expenses incurred on making and putting up the advertisement, it will give permission and all these expenses will be included in the election expenses of the candidate.

He said that all these expenses must be paid by check. He said that if any organization puts up advertisement without the written permission of the candidate and without the approval of the committee then a case would be registered against him under 171H Indian Penal Code. Apart from this, the advertisements in the print media two days before the elections must also be approved by the said committee. Mr. Sharma said that if any candidate publishes or publishes the news of value in any media then where the cost of this news will be included in the election expenses of the said candidate, the name of the said candidate will be mentioned on the website of Election Commission. Will be published by including in the candidates to apply. Apart from this a letter would also be written to Press Council of India and National Broadcasting Standards Authority for action against the said agency.
