PHAGWARA: In a decisive blow to drug trafficking in the district, Jalandhar Rural Police arrested six accused during three operations conducted within 24 hours. The crackdown resulted in the recovery of 23 grams of heroin, 405 narcotic pills, ₹10, 000 in drug money, and a motorcycle used in illegal activities.
“This is part of our ongoing campaign to uproot drug networks and ensure the safety of the community, ” said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh, addressing media personnel at the district police headquarters on Saturday.
In the first operation, Phillaur Police station team apprehended Kamlesh Kumar alias Sonu Bacha and Akash Kumar alias Baba near Panjdhera village. Acting on specific information, the police recovered 8 grams of heroin, 105 narcotic pills, and ₹10, 000 in cash. The operation was conducted under the leadership of Inspector Sanjeev Kapur, with teams deployed at strategic locations.
In another significant operation, Patara Police station team arrested Rajwinder Singh alias Raja and Hardeep Thapar alias Honey near Chadpur village. The duo was caught with 12 grams of heroin and 300 narcotic pills. The motorcycle (PB-08-EM-5261) used for transportation of drugs was also confiscated. The DSP Kulwant Singh supervised this operation with a focused patrol team.
The third operation led by Kartarpur Police station resulted in the arrest of Arshpreet Singh and Dilpreet, who were intercepted near Ambia village. The police recovered 3 grams of heroin from their possession. The operation was carried out under the supervision of DSP Kartarpur Surinder Pal.
Three separate cases registered against the accused:
• Phillaur Operation: FIR No. 318 under sections 21A, 22, and 27A of the NDPS Act.
• Pathara Operation: FIR No. 50 under sections 21, 22, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act.
• Kartarpur Operation: FIR No. 155 under sections 21, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act.
Initial investigations revealed that some of the accused have prior criminal histories. Kamlesh Kumar alias Sonu Bacha has been involved in two NDPS cases previously, and the accused Rajwinder Singh alias Raja and Arshpreet Singh are known to have connections with drug suppliers operating in nearby districts.
The accused will be produced in local courts where remand will be sought to investigate their forward and backward linkages.
Jalandhar Rural Police have adopted zero-tolerance policy against drugs and crime, ” said SSP Khakh. “Jalandhar rural will continue to act with determination to disrupt drug networks”
