AMRITSAR: Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib appointed by Sarbat Khalsa has instructed Jaswinder Singh, Vice President, Gurdwara Sri Nanakmata, Uttarakhand to appear before Panj Piaras ( Five beloved) while saying that he was guilty of violating the code of conduct at Gurdwara Nanakmata.
According to the Sikh code of conduct, it is forbidden to dye one's beard. But Jaswinder Singh, despite being the administrator of the gurdwara, has a beard. Therefore, they are paid according to the Sikh Rehat Maryada.
Jaswinder Singh has been directed to appear before the Sangat and apologize for the mistake. Whatever punishment is inflicted by the Panj Pyare is to be gladly accepted. After the completion of the sentence, prayer should be done at Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Warning Jaswinder Singh, he said that arrogant attitude is not acceptable in Guru Ghar.
In his letter Bhai Jagtar Singh that Gurdwaras are centers for the propagation of Gurmat ideology where Sikh sangats gather to sing the praises of the Guru and discuss Panthic issues.
Letter further said that Violation of Gurmat Maryada by the administrators of Gurdwaras is a big mistake but Guru Panth is forgiving.
The letter said that according to the Panth approved Sikh code of conduct issued by Sri Akal Takhat Sahib, salaried Sikhs can be paid by choosing Panj Pyare from the local Sikh Sangat. In the absence of such an arrangement, one can be forgiven by appearing before the Panj Pyare performing Amrit Sanchar.
