It is unfortunate that the government has imposed GST on Darbar Sahib inns - S. Ramdas

AMRITSAR: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has strongly condemned the government of India's decision to bring inns related to Sachkhand Sri Harimandar Sahib Sri Darbar Sahib under GST.

SGPC Deputy Secretary Media Kulwinder Singh Ramdas said that this decision of the Government of India is highly condemnable and this anti-sangat decision should be withdrawn immediately.
He said that lakhs of devotees from all over the world come to pay obeisance at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib every day, and arrangements are made for their stay by the organization. But it is sad that the Indian government has imposed an additional burden on the society by imposing GST on the taverns. He said that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee uses the offerings made by the Sangat for the arrangements of the Gurdwara Sahibs and for the convenience of the Sangat. Apart from this, from time to time, during natural calamities, it remains a leader in services for public welfare. The inns prepared by the Shiromani Committee for the convenience of the devotees arriving at the Guru Houses are not commercial, so any kind of tax on it is a government push.
