It is necessary to take permission from SDM to cut trees even from non-forest land - Deputy Commissioner

AMRITSAR: In view of the arrival of monsoon, Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Sakshi Sahni has directed the district heads of all departments to immediately identify the places for planting saplings in their respective offices.

Addressing a special meeting on this subject today, the Deputy Commissioner said that if we have to reduce the heat wave, then there is no better means than planting saplings.

She said that the work of planting saplings is a work to be done for our existence and the future of generations. She said that this work of merit should be done voluntarily and not considering it as a government duty.

She said that the rainy season is about to begin and if we miss out on identifying more places , digging pits and planting saplings for a few days, then we will go back another year.

The Deputy Commissioner clarified that under the tree conservation policy, no tree cutting is allowed even from non-forest lands without the permission of the SDM and in future, no such work will be taken lightly.

Showing the heat map obtained from the satellite, he said that special attention should be paid to the places in the district where heat is more affected.

The Deputy Commissioner said that all the departments should take the help of Mia Walki technology to plant more plants in a small space in their offices. He laid special emphasis on planting five plants on each tube in the city's parking lots , petrol pumps , school college complexes , residential colonies , and planting trees in place of boundary pillars used for dividing the fields.

He also asked to collect data on the plants planted last year and how many of them were able to survive . The Deputy Commissioner said that the temperature is increasing every year and to keep it under control, planting and nurturing trees is the most important thing. He said that laxity in this work cannot be tolerated at all. On this occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Paramjit Kaur , SDM Majitha Mr. Khushpreet Singh , Divisional Forest Officer Mr. Rajesh Kumar and District Heads of all departments were present.
