Home Minister Amit Shah's meeting with the Jathedar was a significant step towards strengthening community spirit with the Sikh community.
During his political visit to Amritsar, the meeting of Amit Shah, an influential powerful leader of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Union Home Minister with Giani Harpreet Singh, the acting Jathedar of the Akal Takht, has been well received by political experts and the Sikh community. After paying obeisance at Golden Temple and Akal Takht, Union Minister Shah along with his cabinet colleagues and senior BJP leaders met Jathedar .
The fact that Amit Shah, a close associate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, intends to sit alone with Singh Sahib (Jathedar) during the bilateral talks shows his personal and deep interest in Panthic affairs. This is perhaps the first time in the 73-year history that a powerful Union Minister, like others, has not only walked the Gurudwara in prostration but also with its Jathedar while upholding the sovereignty, honor and status of the highest seat of Sikhs Akal Takht.
He preferred to sit down and have a dialogue to understand and resolve the issues of the Sikh Panth and the Punjab.
During the interaction, the Jathedar discussed with the Union Home⁷ Minister the issues of economic strength, security and other issues facing the Sikh community at home and abroad. On the issue of Sikh issues arising in India and the release of prisoners.
