High Court fixes December 13 for the next hearing on the recruitment process of 1158 Assistant Professors/Librarians

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court today heared appeal filed by the Punjab Government for an interim order regarding the recruitment of 1158 Assistant Professors/Librarians.

During the hearing, the counsel appearing on behalf of the Punjab government demanded immediate interim orders for the allotment of stations to 472 professors selected during the recruitment of 1158 assistant professors/librarians.

The government’s counsel apprised the double bench headed by Hon'ble Chief Justice Ritu Bahri that the recruitment was done for the government colleges after a long time and a selection list of 607 candidates was also released after the examination process, while out of these 135 candidates had also joined at respective stations where they are performing their services. Meanwhile the process of allotment of stations to 472 assistant professors was pending and the recruitment process was set aside by the single bench of Punjab and Haryana High Court.

A CM has been filed by the Punjab Government against the decision of the single bench and till this case is not decided, interim relief to be given to the government to allot stations to the selected candidates who were given appointment letters as there was acute shortage of assistant professors in government colleges of the state.

Apart from this, the counsel of the Punjab government also demanded that the next hearing be held soon for the speedy disposal of the case.  Accepting which, the honourable court ordered to issue notice to the parties concerned and scheduled the next hearing on 13th December 2023.
