AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has questioned the non-provision of information sought by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee from the Punjab government regarding the 'Punjab Prevention of Offences against Sacred Religious Scriptures Bill 2025'.

Advocate Dhami said that although religious scriptures of every religion are respected, Sri Guru Granth Sahib is the Jagat Jyot Guru for Sikhs. There should be special legal provisions regarding Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to prevent incidents of sacrilege of Gurbani.

He said that even in the ongoing sacrilege cases under the existing law, strict punishment should be ensured to the culprits, and it should not remain a mere political issue.

Advocate Dhami said that the Punjab Vidhan Sabha brought the 'Punjab Prevention of Offences against Sacred Religious Scriptures Bill 2025', but the government's approach in this regard has been disappointing so far.

He said that the select committee formed in this regard had sought suggestions from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee regarding this bill, in view of which the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee had constituted a 15-member high-level committee. He said that after serious deliberations during the meetings held from time to time of this committee, some important information was sought from the select committee, to which the government's select committee has not yet responded positively.
