Fight for Amritsar East is a fight for restarting development projects in the constituency – Bikram Majithia

AMRIK SINGH | February 02, 2022 07:05 PM

AMRITSAR:Former minister Bikram Singh Majithia today said the fight for Amritsar East was a fight for restarting development projects in the constituency which had been completely stalled during the last eighteen years under the leadership of Pradesh Congress President Navjot Sidhu.
The Akali stalwart, who is receiving an overwhelming response in the constituency and addressed public gatherings at Maal Mandi, Jahaj Ganj and Ward numbers 27, 28, 29 and 30, said Navjot Sidhu had deceived the people of Amritsar East with hollow promises.

“Every time the election is near he talks about new models. He suddenly starts talking about establishing sports stadiums and bridges. But once the elections are over he leaves the people to their fate. This is why Amritsar East does not have even basic amenities including adequate drinking water supply and modern sewerage system”.

Stating that he was now committed to the constituency whatever be the fate of the election, Mr Bikram Majithia said “people of this constituency, including Congressmen assured me they would support me but they wanted that I should not leave the constituency post election and shift back to my home constituency of Majitha. I have respected the sentiment of the people and have come to your doorstep seeking your love and support”.

Asserting that he would always remain with them, Mr Majithia said “you can ask about my track record from the people of Majitha. I am always there for them. I have nurtured the constituency and developed it into a model one. However here in Amritsar East people have received step-motherly treatment. Forget knowing the name of any constituent, Mr Sidhu does not even know the names of eighteen councilors of the Congress party”.

Mr Majithia said the day was not far off when Navjot Sidhu would bad mouth Congress leader Rahul Gandhi again. “In case the Congress high command does not nominate Sidhu as its chief ministerial candidate he will fall back on calling Rahul Gandhi ‘Pappu’ again. The Congress party chief is also likely to be referred to as ‘Munni’. This is his real character which he has shown in ample supply in Amritsar East also by disrespecting one and all. The time has come for people who show him how to respect one's constituents and I will help them in this task”, Mr Majithia added.

The SAD leader also assured the people that all the wrongs committed against them during Congress tenure would be corrected. He said all blue cards which had been scrapped during Congress rule would be revived. “We will also revive all old age pensions which have been deleted and ensure people received all social welfare benefits including the Shagun scheme benefit and SC scholarships timely. New social welfare benefits including a grant of Rs 2, 000 per month to the woman head of below poverty line families will also be started”

Mr Majithia was accompanied by senior leaders including Gurpartap Singh Tikka and Gurpreet Singh Randhawa
