Fazilka SSP appears at Secretariat Sri Akal Takht Sahib, seeks apology for police action in Sri Darbar Sahib parikrama

AMRITSAR: In connection with the recent incident in which two individuals were detained following police action carried out in the parkarma (circumambulation) of Sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahib without the permission of the shrine management, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Fazilka, Gurmeet Singh appeared today at the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

He presented his side of the matter and sought forgiveness for the mistake committed by the police.

On this occasion, SSP Gurmeet Singh met the Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj, at the Secretariat, where he offered his clarification and tendered an apology for the lapse.

Speaking to the media in this regard, Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj said that Sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahib, the central religious shrine of the Sikhs, gives the message of universal brotherhood to the world, and its four doors are open to all humanity. He said that devotees from across the globe visit the holy shrine with deep reverence and faith.

The Jathedar stated that SSP Fazilka Gurmeet Singh, has presented his version of events and has also been asked to submit the same in writing.

He added that SSP Gurmeet Singh has acknowledged that the manner in which five police personnel from his district entered the parkarma of Sri Darbar Sahib recently was inappropriate and should not have occurred.

He said the police have assured that such a mistake will not be repeated in the future.

The Jathedar emphasized that nothing should ever happen at Sri Darbar Sahib that disturbs the sanctity of the environment or hurts the religious sentiments of the Sangat.
