Everyone, including the opposition Congress, has begun to accept that only the BJP’s strong leadership can pull Punjab out of the quagmire: Sunil Jakhar

PUNJAB NEWS EXPRESS | February 25, 2026 10:37 PM

CHANDIGARH: Bharatiya Janata Party state president Sunil Jakhar said that the fact that even senior Congress leaders are now writing letters to the Central Government seeking improvement in the deteriorating law-and-order situation in the state clearly proves that—like the common people of Punjab and all other sections—the opposition Congress has also accepted that the grave situation in the state can now be corrected only by the BJP under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Home Minister Shri Amit Shah. He was speaking to the media here today.

The BJP president said Punjab needs strong leadership that has the courage to take decisions and implement them. Only then can lawlessness be curbed, a safe environment be provided to the people, and the state be put back on the path of development. He said only the BJP can do this, and now it is in the hands of the people of Punjab to decide whether they want to live every day in fear of losing their lives or choose a peaceful Punjab based on social harmony.

Sunil Jakhar said that due to the irresponsible and immature Aam Aadmi Party government, narco-terrorism in the state has now turned into gangster narco-terrorism. Gangsters lure young boys in to their fold by dreams of a glamorous life ; these youths which are then readily available as gun fodder for terror organisations, spreading terror across the state.

Holding Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s incompetence responsible for this situation, Jakhar said the state’s intelligence network has completely failed, and the police are now limited to carrying out so-called encounters after incidents occur, merely to create an illusion of action and pacify public anger.

He said that in just the recent past, nearly 20 incidents of hand-grenade attacks have taken place in Punjab. This is the result of the nexus between rising gangsters, narcotics, and terrorism, but the state government has proved completely incapable of dealing with it. Earlier, Punjab witnessed the terror of AK-47s; now hand grenades have become the new normal for the state. The impact of this fear and panic is being borne by the common Punjabi, who constantly worries about the safety of life and property. Meanwhile, instead of deploying the police for public safety, they are being assigned to security duties for pre-wedding videography shoots of AAP leaders.
