Environmentalist's services to be used to decontaminate Tung Dhab drain-Aujla

AMRITSAR: Lok Sabha Member Mr. Gurjit Singh Aujla today called upon the team of Environmental Experts from Mumbai and Water Supply and Sewerage Board to solve the problem of Tung Dhab Drain in the city which is causing a lot of problems to the people due to pollution.

Discussions were held with the officials of the department to decontaminate the drain. Mr. Aujla said that the services of environmental experts were being sought to clean the Tung Dhab drain which had been polluted for a long time. He said that some suggestions have been made by the environmental experts for the drainage of wastewater in the Tung Dhab drain under which clean water would be released in it and the drain would be revived and people would be saved from its ill effects.

Mr. Aujla said that in order to clean the drain, environmental experts have been consulted on how to decontaminate it. He said that the decision to fix this drain first or to release water or to make it clean in some other way would be taken on the basis of the report of environmental experts.

Mr. Aujla said that the Municipal Corporation and the Pollution Department were constantly monitoring to ensure that no industrial or sewage effluent was found in the drains. Mr. Aujla said that he has also discussed the issue with Mr. Hardeep Puri, Minister, Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India and he has received a positive response.

He said that a project in this regard should be prepared and sent soon and no shortage of funds would be allowed by the Center in this project. Mr. Aujla said that he has been continuously raising this issue in the Lok Sabha. He said that the issue had been discussed during the recent visit of Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh to Amritsar and he too had directed to expedite the project keeping in view all the issues.

He said that within the next 20-25 days the Punjab Chief Minister would hold a meeting to announce the project for de-pollution of this drain.

Also present in the meeting were Mr. Daljit Singh Chief, Punjab Water Supply Board, Mr. Pankaj Jain Axian, Mr. Lalit Motwani and Mr. Praveen Kumar Environmentalist.
