Ensure that benefits of various public welfare schemes reach the needy: Som Prakash

GURDASPUR: District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee Gurdaspur (District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee) under the chairmanship of Mr. Som Prakash, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Government of India-cum-Chairman, District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee.

A meeting of the Monitoring Committee- was held in which Mr. Mohammad Ishfaq Deputy Commissioner Gurdaspur and Mr. Harjit Singh SSP Gurdaspur were also present.

During the meeting the Union Minister of State reviewed the schemes being run by the Government of India and strongly directed the authorities to ensure that the benefits of the schemes were provided to the needy people within the stipulated time so that any needy beneficiaries could avail their benefits. He directed the officers of all the departments to ensure that a list of the beneficiaries of the schemes being run by the government under their department has been prepared.

Speaking to the media on the occasion he said that in Gurdaspur district about Rs.1150 crore has been spent under various welfare schemes run by the Government of India and the authorities have been directed to prioritize the funds received for the public interest. Use on a case by case basis.

He further said that at least 75 ponds were being beautified in every district of the country dedicated to the 75th 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahautsav' for which guidelines have been issued to the concerned authorities.

During the meeting detailed information about the ongoing schemes was provided by the officers of various departments. Dr. from Health Department Vijay Kumar, Civil Surgeon said that under Ayusman Bharat Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana, cards of around 2 lakh 50 thousand beneficiaries have been issued in the district and cards of other beneficiaries are also being prepared. He said that under this scheme about 28 lakh 74 lakh rupees has been given to the beneficiaries. During the meeting District Program Officer Mr. Virinder Singh informed that under the organized child development services in the district health services were being provided to the pregnant women and mothers of new born children. About Rs. 6 crore 79 lakhs have been spent under nutrition program.

During the meeting Balbir Singh, Deputy District Education Officer (DDO) informed that about Rs. 15 crore 70 lakh crore has been spent in 1572 schools under mid day meal. Apart from this 8 special children were treated at Amandeep Hospital Sri Amritsar and 71 children were given hearing aids. Beneficiaries under Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gram Jyoti Yojana have been provided benefits of Rs. 10 crore 52 lakhs.

Disclosing this here today Mr. Balraj Singh Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) said that under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Gurdaspur, Gurdaspur district was number one in Punjab for implementing Maganrega and around Rs.100 crore had been spent on development works. He said that 82 ponds in the district were being beautified and the remaining ponds would be developed.
