ED arrests Bhupinder Singh Honey, nephew of Punjab CM Channi in sand mining case

CHANDIGARH: The Enforcement Directorate at midnight arrested Bhupinder Singh Honey, the nephew of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi in the sand mininig case. The ED had last week recovered Rs.10 crore from the flat of Honey.

According to information Hiney was picked from his luxury flat in Himeland society in Mohali and taken to Jalandhar office of ED. His medical examination was conducted in civil hospital Jalandhar. He will be brought to Mohali today to produce him in the CBI court Mohali.

Last week he was summoned by ED for investigtion after recovery of R.8 crore cash, gold worth Rs, 21 lakhs and a watch costing Rs.12 lakh besides other valuables-all valued at Rs.10 crores. He was let off after investigation and summons were sent to him to appear before the ED. But he failed to appear before ED.

The arrest of Hiney came two days before the Congress high command is preparing to declare the name of CM candidate. Channi is a front runner for the post. BJP has high stakes in Punjab elections and ED may nab some close relatives of Channi including his brother a retored Chief Engineer who was earlier an accused in the Ludhiana city center scam.

ED has also arrested two more persons said to be partners of Honey, the latest reports said.
