PHAGWARA: In an era dominated by commercial pursuits, a Phagwara e-rickshaw driver has become a symbol of compassion by offering free rides to pregnant women.
For nearly a year, Lovely, son of Shastri resident Mansa Devi Nagar Phagwara, has been operating his e-rickshaw with a unique pledge displayed on the back: “No fare will be charged from pregnant women.” His decision, he says, was inspired by the struggles of expectant mothers from low-income backgrounds, many of whom find it difficult to afford transportation to hospitals or clinics for essential check-ups.
“Some women would miss their medical appointments simply because they didn’t have the fare, ” Lovely told reporters. “If I can help them reach on time without worrying about money, it gives me peace of mind.”
The initiative has won him widespread appreciation from local residents, who praise his selflessness and see it as a model for community service. In a city where livelihoods often leave little room for charity, Lovely's quiet commitment serves as a reminder that acts of kindness can be as vital as any professional duty.
