CHANDIGARH: Senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Leader of Opposition, Harpal Singh Cheema, while reacting to the outpourings of former Akali Minister and Badal family member, Bikram Singh Majithia, said that the people of the state were aware of the unholy alliance between the Badals and the royal family. Cheema said had the AAP government in power instead of Congress government in the state, Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia and many other Akali leaders would have been behind the bars.
In a statement issued from party headquarters, Cheema said Bikram Majithia should clarify as to why he shouldn’t be behind the bars in the Harike Patan Highway incident, stating if he had not the blessing of his 'uncle' Captain Amarinder Singh, the police would not have not allowed him the roam free.
Cheema questioned the SAD leader “Will he (Bikram Singh Majithia) explain as to whether Captain Amarinder Singh had not tried to stop CBI investigation against him (Majithia) by influencing then UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on drug trafficking charges? He added that the Punjab Congress leadership, including the then Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa, had been demanding a CBI inquiry into the entire episode on the startling revelations made by Jagdish Bhola?
The AAP leaders said that during the recently-concluded Assembly session and at the Congress MLAs and ministers’ meeting, the age-old bonhomie between the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh and the Badal clan playing a safe friendly match in the state had made for the prominent newspaper headlines. He asked Majithia if he could tell the people that wasn’t it true that by the sheer generosity of Captain Amarinder Singh that the Badal-Majithia family transport trade had flourished by leaps and bounds during his two and a half year regime of the Captain government?
The AAP leader said it was for the grace of Capt Amarinder Singh that the Badals had succeeded in saving their skin from the incidents of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and the Behbal Kalan-Kotkapura shootout? Cheema said that the Badal-Majithia families had been lording the cable mafia, transport mafia, power mafia and liquor and drug mafia during the 10-year rule, leaving the people of the state rue in resignation as the government sided with the mafia by reneging on poll promise he made to the people under oath.
in early July, he shared his four-page resignation letter on social media platform Twitter.
