NAWANSHAHR : Reiterating his firm commitment for the well being of society through blood donation, deputy commissioner of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa, donated blood for the third time during his current positing.
The Deputy Commissioner donated the Blood Center being run by an NGO Blood Donors' Council. While donating blood, Randhawa urged all healthy persons between 18-65 years having weight more than 45 kg & haemoglobin more than 12.5 gms percent to make blood donation a way of healthy life.
He said that he had tried to set an example for others too to donate the blood on the very first day of joining but due to high BP he couldn't do so on the day 1 but donated it in the same week. Today, when I was here to donate blood for the third time, I am feeling a proud blood donor member of the society. Exhorting the residents especially youth to promote the social cause like blood donating, he said when the bag of blood is transfused to a needy person then nobody knows whose blood has been given to whom barring any caste and creed, so there is no best donation than this in the world.
Dr Ajay Bagga, Blood Transfusion Officer and Mr Parvesh Kumar, Cashier of Blood Donors' Council, Nawanshahar expressed gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner for making blood donation a way of life. Both also applauded the humility and dedication of Randhawa for visiting the Blood Centre in time for this sacred cause in the last 10 months.
DC Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa also expressed happiness for doing Glycosylated Haemoglobin (Hb A1C) of diabetics to ensure that diabetics visiting Blood Centre for blood donation are having blood Sugar levels within limits.
Dr Bagga while listing benefits of blood donation said that it lowers Cancer risk, burns calories, reduces Cardiovascular risk, prevents Liver damage, balances Iron levels in blood and produces new blood cells.
