The Saragarhi massacre is a unique story of sacrifice that is unparalleled in the world. The massacre commemorates the 21 valiant soldiers of the Sikh Regiment who, on 12 September 1897, defended the Saragarhi fort and drank Shahidi Jam in the face of an attack by 10, 000 Pathans. In this way he created a new chapter in the history of India, which is a source of inspiration for future generations.

On 12 September 1897, thousands of Afridis and Arakzai Pathans attacked the outpost and besieged both outposts. Lieutenant Colonel Houghton, who was the commanding officer of Fort Lockhart, made contact with Saragarhi, where messages were being received by holograph. There were 4 companies in this outpost. On September 3 and September 9, 1897, the tribes attacked Gulistan Chowki. Both of these attacks were met with a resounding response, inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy. Feeling the pain of this defeat, on 12 September 1897, thousands of Pathans launched a massive attack on the Saragarhi outpost. Inside this small outpost, brave Sikh soldiers repulsed several attacks by the invaders and more than two hundred Pathans were killed in a six-hour battle.
