BJP Punjab Demands judicial inquiry into Ludhiana Toxic Liquor Deaths

PUNJAB NEWS EXPRESS | May 22, 2025 09:11 PM

CHANDIGARH: The Bharatiya Janata Party, Punjab, strongly condemns the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s failure to curb the deadly spread of toxic liquor and drugs across the state. The latest tragedy in Ludhiana — where three young men reportedly lost their lives last night after consuming spurious alcohol — exposes the alarming collapse of law and order, health systems, and governance under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, said State General Secretary Anil Sarin in a press release.

According to credible media reports, the exact cause of death is still being obfuscated, with serious doubts being raised about whether these deaths were due to toxic liquor or drug overdose. Shockingly, instead of ensuring transparency and taking swift action, the AAP government appears to be engaged in a cover-up.

Raising key questions, Sarin asked: Why has there been no clarity from the government or health officials on the cause of death? Why has no police case been registered, no minister suspended, and no arrests made? Why has Bhagwant Mann’s so-called “War on Drugs” been reduced to hollow PR while real Punjabis continue to die?

Sarin further added that even as Punjab bleeds, AAP leaders including Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia are sitting in Ludhiana for political campaigning, turning a blind eye to the growing body count caused by narcotics and toxic substances. Their promises of making Punjab “drug-free” have proven to be nothing more than a cruel joke.

BJP Punjab demands:
* An immediate judicial inquiry into the Ludhiana deaths
* Ex-gratia compensation of ₹10 lakh to each victim’s family, as per previous precedents
* Immediate arrests and accountability of those involved in the illegal liquor trade
* Public disclosure of post-mortem and toxicology reports without delay

Sarin concluded by saying that this is not just a failure of law and order — it is a betrayal of the trust of every Punjabi family.
