PHAGWARA: The long-awaited reconstruction of the Banga Road in Phagwara is set to begin soon, with funds of ₹3.88 crore already approved and all necessary formalities completed. The announcement was made by Lok Sabha member Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal, Deputy Leader of the Aam Aadmi Party in the Lok Sabha, who said the project would bring major relief to residents and commuters using the busy road.

Dr Chabbewal said the 5.20-kilometre stretch of Banga Road will be reconstructed at a cost of ₹3 crore 88 lakh. He added that the demand for reconstruction of both Plahi Road and Banga Road had been repeatedly raised by residents of the Phagwara Assembly constituency. Acting on these demands, work on Plahi Road was taken up earlier and has now been completed.

He informed that the 2.60-kilometre-long Plahi Road was reconstructed at a cost of ₹1.50 crore and is already providing improved connectivity to local residents. With that project completed, the administration is now moving ahead with the reconstruction of Banga Road, which has remained in a deteriorated condition for a long time.

The MP said that the people of Chabbewal and Phagwara Assembly segments, which fall under the Hoshiarpur parliamentary constituency, are like his family. He expressed gratitude to the public for electing him to the Lok Sabha and also supporting his son, Dr Ishank Kumar, who was elected as MLA from the Chabbewal Assembly constituency. He said fulfilling development-related demands of the people was his moral responsibility.

Dr Chabbewal stated that all promises made to the electorate during the Lok Sabha elections are being fulfilled and that public welfare remains his top priority. He added that no effort would be spared in ensuring the overall development of the Hoshiarpur parliamentary constituency.

Earlier, Phagwara MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal (Retd IAS) had raised the issue of the poor condition of Banga Road during the ongoing session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly and demanded its early reconstruction. He had pointed out that the stretch from Phagwara Bus Stand to Mehli bypass had been in a severely dilapidated condition for a long time, causing inconvenience to residents and daily commuters.
