NAWANSHAHR: The Jamhoori AdhikaNAWANSHAHR: The Jamhoori Adhikar Sabha, Punjab has termed the use of tear gas shells as a deadly chemical weapon against the struggling farmers and demanded an immediate ban on its use in the country . r Sabha, Punjab has termed the use of tear gas shells as a deadly chemical weapon against the struggling farmers and demanded an immediate ban on its use in the country .
"While the Sabha condemns other forms of police brutality also, it also condemns the use of tear gas shells on people as inhumane, " said a press statement by the Sabha secretary Jasbir Deep here today, . The statement added that the chemical was discovered by American scientists in 1928. When its powder is mixed with a gaseous substance in a container then it becomes a 'tear bomb' . When this bomb explodes then a gas named 'CS gas' comes out. When this gas goes into the air, it finds moisture to get mixed with it. Then it enters the body of human beings through their tears, saliva, nasal mucus, and sweat from the skin etc and attacks specific receptors in the body. Receptors then send pain signals to our brain, the statement reads. Then the body wants to get rid of this pain as soon as possible resulting in tears flow out , coughing, etc. "There is pain in the nose and throat and it is more deadly for respiratory patients and children, " claimed the release. Children's breathing process is faster than people of other age groups and the gas affects them more lethally.
As per the release, "at one point, the question arose as to whether or not it should be allowed in the wars and it was decided in 1997 at a world convention convened to discuss use of chemical weapons in wars that the use of this gas be banned in wars.
However, from time to time, the statement regretted, the governments of our country have been using it openly on their own struggling people. A recent and reprehensible example of this is the tear gas shells recently used on farmers by the Modi government and the Khattar government in Haryana, said the statement.
