CHANDIGARH: In a decisive move to uphold accountability and integrity in the education system, the Punjab Government on Tuesday suspended Devi Prasad, Block Primary Education Officer (BPEO) of Baghapurana, after a video exposing his misconduct went viral on social media.
The action was taken by Secretary School Education, Punjab, Ms. Anindita Mitra, on the directions of Punjab School Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains. The viral video raised serious concerns about the officer’s conduct, prompting immediate intervention by the department.
“The Punjab Government has zero tolerance towards negligence or misconduct in the education system. Strict action will be taken against any official found violating rules or failing in their duties, ” said School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains. He emphasized that the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab Government is committed to ensuring discipline and highest ethical standards in school administration for the benefit of students and staff.
A video of BPEO dancing with his wife on his marriage anniversary had gone viral. The officer said that his wife had visited office after office time as he was busy in official work to wish him on marriage anniversary. They danced in the office and somebody made the video. The officer said that he would file a police complaint for making his video without his permission.
