NAWANSHAHR:A function was held at Rahon today on the pre-Nirvana day of Babu Kanshi Ram which was attended by a large number of people. Led by Barjinder Singh Hussainpur, the event was originally a seminar but the participation of a large number of people from the area turned it into a rally.
Arriving here from Delhi, Dalit thinker Anil Chamria lauded the celebration of Babu Kanshi Ram's Pre-Nirvana Day for the first time in Punjab by all sections jointly and said that as the ideology of Guru Granth Sahib is common to all, similarly the thinking of Kanshi Ram is equal for all sections of the society. After Ambedkar's death, Babu Kanshi Ram went on to speak of 'pluralization' ( bahujanikaran) of politics, he said. He also categorically said that the present heirs of Babu Kanshi Ram's party were not the heirs of his thinking.
Babu Kanshi Ram's close associate Gurbachan Singh while sharing his memories said that he was his companion from the days of his initial struggle to till his death. " The story of his struggle is unparalleled but we have presented him as a Messiah and as a result his worship has begun, " he said. He added that "we should talk more about the struggle waged by Kanshi Ram so that people could take inspiration from him".
Former MLA and long time activist for Dalit interests, Shingara Ram Sahungara said that when Babu Kanshi Ram held his first rally in Punjab, he had said that the rights of Dalits were fully protected under Sikhism. He strongly criticized the so-called heirs of Kanshi Ram and said that whether there is an agreement of with any party or not, there should be mutual understanding between Sikhs and Dalits as only then the interests of each other can be safeguarded.
Thanking everyone on the occasion, Barjinder Singh Hussainpur said that associating social reformers, great personalities and leaders with any particular religion, class or caste is an expression of narrow mindedness. He said that he would do his best to hold ceremonies in the memory of the leaders of the society so that their thinking could be spread. It may be mentioned here that Hussainpur is also making great efforts for the promotion of sports and improvement of education in the area.
The speakers who arrived here lauded the efforts of Barjinder Singh Hussainpur to celebrate Babu Kanshi Ram's Pre-Nirvana Day for the first time in Punjab.
