AMRITSAR: Commenting on the completion of 100 years of the Akali Dal, the Dal Khalsa said the party in its present form has drifted form its core agenda and principles and it’s power hungry leadership has shed it’s core ideology of articulating the religio-political aspirations of the Sikh Nation.
Party senior leaders H S Dhami and Kanwar Pal singh said the so-called saviours of the Panth have turned out to be saviours of selfish political interests.
They said the Bargarhi/Behbal Kalan episodes, so-called apology to Gurmeet Ram Rahim, induction of Izhar Alam in party hierarchy, giving field day to notorious cop SS Saini and misuse of august post of Jathedar of Akal Takhat were some black spots on the recent history of the Akali Dal.
They said at the time when the fascist regime of PM Narendra Modi abrogated Article 370 & 35-A, amended UAPA to make it more draconian, promulgated Citizenship ( Amendment) Act, misused black laws to frame Jamia and JNU students, engineered Delhi violence in February and brought Agri ordinances in June, Akalis stood with Hindutva Govt, severely damaging the interests of Panth and Punjab.
They said the decision to snap ties with the BJP was out of political compulsion. When they aligned with the Saffron party, it was marriage of convenience and now it’s separation of convenience, they opined.
