SGPC also objects to YouTuber making animation video about Guru Sahib
AMRITSAR: Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj, the officiating head of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, has taken strong notice of a recently published AI-animated video by YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, which depicts Sikh Gurus and the Sahibzadas.
In a statement issued by the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Jathedar Gargajj stated that by releasing such a video, Dhruv Rathee has insulted Sikh traditions, history, and sentiments.
He emphasized that Sikh principles clearly prohibit the visual representation or animation of the Gurus, the Sahibzadas, members of the Guru’s family, and Sikh martyrs.
Jathedar Gargajj sternly instructed Dhruv Rathee to remove the objectionable video from his channel without delay.
He further mentioned that during a recent gathering at Sri Akal Takht Sahib concerning films, the matter of AI animation was also seriously discussed. A meeting with experts in this technology will soon be held to formulate a concrete policy aimed at decisively preventing such anti-Gurmat actions.
He expressed concern that in today’s technological era, the issue of films relating to Sikh history has become even more serious, and a serious solution must be found accordingly.
Jathedar Gargajj also directed the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to contact the relevant government ministries regarding Dhruv Rathee’s video and ensure it is taken down. He further instructed the SGPC to widely publicize its past resolutions and decisions regarding films in various languages to ensure that such actions are not repeated in the future.
Meanwhile Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has expressed strong objection to the animation video created by YouTuber Dhruv Rathi about the tenth Guru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and the four Sahibzades with AI and has asked the government to remove it immediately and take strictest action against it.
Advocate Dhami said that the history of Sikh Gurus and Sikh personalities is a sacred and inalienable heritage for us, which no person can be allowed to distort or misrepresent.
He said that no kind of film or animation related to Guru Sahibs and their families can be made. In this regard, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has passed a resolution and completely banned it.
He said that apart from historical errors in Dhruv Rathi's video, Sikh sentiments have been hurt by including an AI-generated video depicting the Gurus. Such depictions are a violation of Sikh principles and traditions, because in Sikhism, Gurus, Sahibzadas and their families cannot be shown as characters. Therefore, this YouTuber has taken an action against Sikh principles. The SGPC President asked the concerned YouTuber to remove this video immediately. He also said that if the person concerned does not remove the video, the SGPC will also take legal action against him.
