Objected to parallel functions by Mann government on dates SGPC is organising Nagar Kirtans and events
AMRITSAR: Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj today took strong notice of interference by Punjab government in religious affairs of Sikhs and announcing commemoration of 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Teg Bahadar ji.
Jathedar asked the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to get baptized before organising the religious functions which are otherwise domain of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee. He said that Mann and most of his minister trip their beard, they all shall adhere to Sikh maryada. He said that state government should play a supportive role in organizing necessary arrangements.
He backed SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami’s objections to the Punjab Government’s unilateral announcement of events and urged the government to coordinate with Sikh institutions and SGPC, rather than scheduling parallel Nagar Kirtans or events on pre-announced dates.
Jathedar Gargajj concluded that past centenaries have always been observed and marked under the leadership of Sikh bodies with government support, and the Sikh community welcomes cooperation, including the participation of government leaders if done respectfully.
