CHANDIGARH: With Punjab Government continuing its decisive campaign “Gangstran Te Vaar” to make Punjab a gangster free state, Punjab Police teams on Wednesday carried out raids at identified and mapped locations linked to foreign based gangsters for the second consecutive day under the 72 hour long ‘Operation Prahaar’.
Declaring a full scale war against gangsters on Tuesday, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav had launched the 72 hour long crackdown named “Operation Prahaar”, under which more than 2000 police teams comprising around 12, 000 personnel were deployed across the state to dismantle the ecosystem of organised crime.
Sharing the outcomes of Day 2 of the operation, Special Director General of Police (Special DGP) Law and Order Arpit Shukla, who personally visited Mohali to supervise the ongoing action, said, “As many as 1186 associates and abetters of foreign based gangsters have been rounded up across the state on the second day of the operation, taking the total number to 2500.” He said that 1314 individuals were rounded up on Day 1 of Operation Prahaar.
Special DGP Arpit Shukla said, “Thorough investigations are ongoing from various aspects, including financial networks, logistics, weapon supply chains and communication links, to completely dismantle the support system backing organised crime.”
Urging citizens to actively support the campaign against organised crime, Special DGP Arpit Shukla said, “People can anonymously report information related to wanted criminals and gangsters and also share tips on crime and criminal activity through the Anti Gangster Helpline number 93946-93946.” He added, “A cash reward of up to ₹10 lakh will be given for information leading to the arrest of gangsters.”
