Punjab Government committed to fulfilling the dreams of the martyrs : Aman Arora
AMRITSAR: The 80th Independence Day of the country was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour in Amritsar. At the district-level Independence Day function held at Guru Nanak Stadium, Amritsar, the National Flag was unfurled by Punjab Cabinet Minister for New and Renewable Energy Sources, Printing and Stationery, Good Governance and Information Technology, Employment Generation and Training, Industries and Commerce, and Investment Promotion, Mr. Aman Arora.
After unfurling the National Flag and extending Independence Day greetings to the people of the district, Cabinet Minister Mr. Aman Arora, in his address, said that we are living in a free country today because of the various movements launched for India's independence and the sacrifices made by great freedom fighters and martyrs including Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Rajguru, Shaheed Sukhdev, Sardar Kartar Singh Sarabha, Shaheed Udham Singh, Madan Lal Dhingra, Lala Lajpat Rai, Diwan Singh Kalepani and many other freedom fighters. He said that Punjabis take immense pride in having made the greatest sacrifices during the freedom struggle.
He said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann had taken the oath of office at Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh, and photographs of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and the architect of the Constitution, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, have been installed in government offices. As a result of the government's efforts, the Mohali International Airport was named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh and a statue of the great martyr was also installed.
Mr. Aman Arora said that freedom fighters are a matter of pride for Punjab. The pension provided to freedom fighters of the state or their heirs has been increased from Rs 9,400 to Rs 11,000. A provision of one per cent reservation has also been made for the heirs of freedom fighters in direct recruitment by the Punjab Government.
He said that the expansion of Aam Aadmi Clinics, new ambulances, free electricity, easy registration, cleaning of ponds in all villages of Punjab for the first time since Independence, ensuring water reaches the tail ends, the campaign against drugs, the anti-corruption drive, construction of rural sports grounds, employment opportunities for sportspersons and preparation allowances before major sporting competitions, health insurance of ₹10 lakh for all, and constitution of committees of industrialists for industrial development are among the major decisions that are helping Punjab move towards a new era of progress.
He said that Punjab is the land of Gurus and Peers, and the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to acquainting future generations with this rich heritage. The state government has planned year-long programmes dedicated to the 650th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji, for which ₹100 crore has been earmarked in the budget.
He said that Sri Guru Ravidas Ji Bani Adhiyan Kendra is also being developed at Dera Sachkhand Ballan in Jalandhar for the study of the life, philosophy and sacred bani of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji. The centre will be constructed over an area of more than 10 acres at a total estimated cost of ₹37 crore.
He said that the budget of the “Rangla Punjab Vikas Scheme”, launched to promote development and strengthen infrastructure in the state, has been increased from ₹585 crore in 2025-26 to ₹1,170 crore for 2026-27. Under the scheme, priority is being given to works related to education, health, sports, drinking water, sanitation and rural development. He also elaborated on other welfare schemes being implemented by the Punjab Government. Concluding his address, he paid his respects to all the great martyrs of India and prayed for the prosperity and progress of Punjab and the country. He appealed to all Punjabis to come together and work collectively to make their beloved state a “Rangla Punjab”.
During the function, Chief Guest Mr. Aman Arora specially honoured the families of freedom fighters, Veer Naris and individuals who had achieved excellence in various fields. On the occasion, the District Red Cross Society distributed tricycles, wheelchairs and sewing machines among needy persons.
