Punjab government has started issuing free-ship cards to students pursuing higher education after 10th standard

BATALA: Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Agarwal gave information and said that the increase in the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in the higher education of Scheduled Caste students under the 'Post Matric Scholarship India Scheme for the Study of SC Category Students' 2023-24.

The main objective of this scheme is to provide assistance to students from extremely poor families to complete higher education. Under this scheme, the Punjab government provides free-ship card to students who are pursuing higher education after 10th standard. Online applications for issuance and applying for the scholarship are being taken at Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship Portal https://scholarships.punjab.gov.in.

The Deputy Commissioner has further stated that as per the educational qualification, the applicant should be a resident of Punjab State and the applicant should belong to Scheduled Caste of Punjab State. The annual family income of the student's parent/guardian should not exceed Rs.2.5 lakh. Applicant should be studying in Government, Recognized and Private University/College/School. Along with this, the instructions to apply Free-Ship Card is to be issued only to Fresher (first year of the course) students. The procedure for applying free-ship card is in the Student Registration and freeship card manual in the help menu of the portal. Renewal students do not need to apply for the scholarship, their applications must be submitted through the Institutions ID. are automatically generated in According to which the student's application is forwarded by the institutions. Applicant's bank account should be Aadhaar seeded and in active mode so that the scholarship can be disbursed. Also Income Certificate (only for Freshers) issued by Competent Authority (Minimum Tehsildar/Naib Tehsildar). While applying for the scholarship, the student should lock his details only after checking them completely.

On this occasion, District Welfare Officer Sukhwinder Singh said that all educational institutions for universities/colleges/schools will admit the students with free-ship card in their institution without charging admission fee. He said that all the educational institutions should ensure that whenever a student takes admission in the institution, he should be applied for the scholarship immediately. It is very important to keep copies of the complete documents of the students admitted under the scheme by the institution. It is mandatory for institutions to implement Aadhaar based attendance system for the year 2023-24. Each institution shall ensure establishment of Facilitation Centers to benefit every eligible student under the scheme.
