Protest by labourers' trade unions in front of Nawanshahr MLA's residence

NAWANSHAHR:A joint front of rural and farm workers' organizations here today staged a dharna in front of the residence of Congress MLA Angad Singh of Nawanshahr constituency, demanding the fulfillment workers' demands.

Kamaljit Sanawa, a state leader of Pendu Mazdoor Union, Mukand Lal, a leader of Punjab Khet Mazdoor Sabha, Harpal Singh, a leader of Rural Mazdoor Sabha said that Capt. govt did not fulfil even a single poll promise he had made to the labourers. "The government has kept the workers in limbo only. In the recent past, the debt waiver notification of the workers' societies has been issued but no line has been drawn on the debts of labourers, " lamented the leaders.
In a memorandum submitted to the MLA, they demanded debt waiver of labour societies, free residential plots of 10 marlas to each family, Rs. 600 for MNREGA workers and 200 days of work for them in a year, blue cards for all the needy persons, etc.
Surinder Singh Bhatti, Prem Singh Shahabpur, Tarksheel Society leader Satpal Saloh also expressed their views on the occasion.
The workers staged the dharna in front of the MLA's residence for an hour and a half till the MLA came out to accept their memorandum. A large number of women also joined the protest.
