‘Girl Child Day’ celebrated at Desh Bhagat University

MANDI GOBINDGARH: Desh Bhagat University's Techno Club, in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, celebrated "National Girl Child Day" on Wednesday at the APJ Abdul Kalam Seminar Hall. The event marked a significant initiative to raise awareness about gender-based discrimination, inequality, and importance of empowering the girl child.

Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Vice-President of Desh Bhagat University, inaugurating the function emphasised the pivotal role of education in empowering women. He shared insightful thoughts, stating, "When a man is educated, only one individual is educated, but when a woman is educated, the entire family is educated."
Dr. Sadawarti also highlighted the achievements of remarkable female personalities such as Droupadi Murmu, Kalpana Chawla, Saina Nehwal, Indira Gandhi, Kiran Majumdar Shah, Marykom, and Kiran Bedi, inspiring the younger generation to strive for greatness.

The lighting of the lamp ceremony was performed by Assistant Director of Engineering, Dr. Khushboo Bansal, Director of Media, Dr. Surjeet Kaur Patheja.

The Techno Club organised a series of events, including a Poster Making Competition focused on saving and encouraging girl children. Students from various branches showcased their creativity by crafting posters addressing issues like female foeticide and promoting empowerment of women. A declamation contest on "Save Girl Child" and Women Empowerment was also organised.

The day's festivities included a cultural event, featuring mesmerising performances such as classical dances, songs, and bhangra.

Desh Bhagat University Chancellor Dr Zora Singh and Pro-Chancellor Dr Tajinder Kaur extended their wishes for the success of the event.
