AMRITSAR: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has welcomed the decisions taken regarding the marriages of the Sikh community at Takht Hazur Sahib but no such edict has been issued by Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikh religion.
The five Sikh high priests of Sri Hazur Sahib Nanded in Maharashtra have directe that bride should not wear a heavy lehenga but only a simple dress of salwar kameez during the Anand Karaj.
Sikh priests of Sri Hazur Sahib, Nanded took the decision n a meeting held under the leadership of Giani Kulwant Singh Singh recently.
Kulwant Singh said that due to wearing a heavy lehenga, the bride faces a lot of trouble while bowing before Guru Sahib during the Anand Karj.
According to Sikh marriage customs, it has been made mandatory that 'Singh' and 'Kaur' must be written in the name of the bride and groom in the marriage card.
He said that this tough decision has been taken to prevent unnecessary expenditure and unnecessary display during the wedding.
He said that if any Sikh does not accept this Gurmata, then action will be taken against him according to panthic traditions.
Earlier the five Sikh high priests (Panch Singh Sahibs) had imposed a complete ban on Anand Karj on the occasion of destination wedding at Sri Akal Takht Sahib. It is said to be against Sikh morality. Now no one will be able to celebrate the marriage of any member of his family by taking the form of Sri Guru Granth Sahib at any beach or any other wedding place.
While there is already a ban on carrying holy Bir of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in the Marriage Palace. Five Sikh high priests have also directed that Do not shower flowers--Furthermore, he said that it has been observed that when the girl is brought for a walk, the family members bring a sheet of flowers on the girl's head. This is not correct. Flowers should not be showered on the bride.
The full names of the bride and groom should be printed with Singh and Kaur on the marriage card. The Singhs have appealed to the Sikh community to follow these guidelines. Strict action will be taken against those who do not follow it.
