FARIDKOT: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi today spoke with Balwinder Singh, father of late ‘Agniveer’, Akashdeep Singh, who died in Jammu recently due to a bullet injury.
Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring paid a visit to Akashdeep’s home in Kothe Chahal village near Faridkot. Warring expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and conveyed Rahul Gandhi’s message also.
Warring at the same time made Balwinder Singh speak directly with Gandhi. He assured him of his full support. Gandhi told him that the Congress party has always opposed the policy of “Agnipath” recruitments and demanded that all soldiers should be treated at a par.
He told Balwinder Singh that he will take up his case with the government and at all the relevant fora.
Akashdeep had died of bullet injury while being posted in Jammu. He was recruited in the army as an Agniveer and not as a regular soldier.
