NEW DELHI: In its fight against pollution, the Delhi government on Thursday introduced a photo, audio, and video-based mobile app to enable citizens here to report pollution violations and local sources of menace in the city. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched the app to increase citizen participation and ensure timely action.
The 'Green Delhi' App is among the slew of anti-pollution measures announced by the Delhi government earlier this month under the 'Yuddh, Pradushan Ke Viruddh' campaign.
It is a photo, audio, and video-based app to enable citizens of Delhi to report pollution violations and local sources of pollution in the city, such as garbage burning, dust due to construction activities, industrial activities, and other local pollutants.
The app can be downloaded for android phones for now and will be available on other platforms soon.
A complaint can be lodged on the App and it will be resolved in a time-bound manner. When the issue is resolved, the concerned department will also upload a picture that would show that the complaint has been resolved in a specified timeline.
But if the citizen is not satisfied with the resolution of the complaint, he or she can reopen the complaint. The monitoring of the resolution of all complaints and the number of complaints received will be done in a 24x7 Green War Room.
Around 70 Green marshals have also been deployed for effective resolution of complaints registered on the app.
"The people of Delhi are suffering due to rising pollution levels. In the last five years, pollution has reduced by 25 per cent due to several measures taken by the Delhi government and the people of Delhi. This year too, efforts are being made to reduce pollution, such as shutting down of thermal power plants in Delhi, shifting 95 per cent of the industries to non-polluting fuels, launching the progressive EV policy, and the tree transplantation policy, " Kejriwal said at the event.
This year, the government has converted stubble into manure using a bio-decomposing technique, and received satisfactory results until now. If this experiment is successful, the Chief Minister said the Delhi government will be able to reduce smoke due to stubble burning by next year.
"We have sprayed the solution on the farmlands in Delhi and we hope that other governments will adopt the technique."
On Thursday, Kejriwal said his government is launching the 'Green Delhi' App which aims to enable every citizen to participate in 'Yuddh, Pradushan Ke Viruddh' campaign.
"No movement can happen until people take part in the movement."
