NAKODAR:There were 48, 550 fatal road accidents on National Highways (NHs) in India during 2018, up by 2.81% against 47, 223 during 2017. We have seen annual growth of 1.97% and 1.76% in fatal road accidents on NHs in India during 2016 and 2017 respectively. The top 5 States/Union Territories (TUs) with respect to number of fatal road accidents on NHs during 2018 were Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Rajasthan. Sais a report based on data taken from Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways which has been posted on website data.gov.in.
It said that the number of fatal road accidents on NHs in Uttar Pradesh was 6, 923 in 2017. It has surged by 10.89% to 7, 677 during 2018 above 2017. Annual decline of -23.65% has been observed in fatal road accidents on NHs in Tamil Nadu to 4, 058 during 2018 from 5, 315 during 2017. The number of fatal road accidents on NHs in Maharashtra was 3, 591 during 2018, up by 12.29% versus 3, 198 during 2017. Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra accounted for 15.81%, 8.36% and 7.4% respectively of the total fatal road accidents on NHs in India during 2018.
During 2018, there were 3, 571 and 3, 372 fatal road accidents on NHs in Karnataka and Rajasthan respectively. Karnataka accounted for 7.36% and Rajasthan accounted for 6.95% of the total fatal road accidents on NHs in India during 2018.
