Akal Takht Jathedar summons Takht Patna Sahib Committee for not obeying earlier edict

AMRIK SINGH | May 21, 2025 08:10 PM

AMRITSAR: The management of Takht Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Sahib was issued a stern reprimand for failing to comply with prior directives from Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Specifically, the committee ignored orders to assess Granthi Bhai Baldev Singh's Gurbani recitation and to immediately transfer Granthi Bhai Gurdial Singh. As a result of this non-compliance, both Granthis have been barred from performing any Panthic duties.

The Akal Takht Sahib has now summoned the leadership of the Takht Patna Sahib Management Committee to present themselves for explanation. Jathedar Giani Ranjit Singh Gargajj also declared the committee "Tankhaiya"—a serious religious reprimand for defiance against the highest Sikh authority.

Giani Ranjit Singh Gauhar Reinstated

The Five Singh Sahiban announced the reinstatement of Giani Ranjit Singh Gauhar, who had previously faced allegations that barred him from Panthic service. A fact-finding committee, constituted under former Takht Patna Sahib Committee President Avtar Singh Hit, found no wrongdoing on his part. Based on these findings, the ban on his religious duties has been lifted with immediate effect, and the report was made public.

Harvinder Singh Sarna Seeks Forgiveness

Former President of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), Harvinder Singh Sarna, appeared before the Singh Sahiban to express remorse for his earlier derogatory remarks against Sikh scholars and clergy. His repentance was accepted on the condition that he performs two Japji Sahib and two Chaupai Sahib recitations daily for 11 days, and offers Karah Prasad worth Rs 501 at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, Delhi, upon completing the sewa.

Giani Gurmukh Singh Punished for Past Role in Controversy

Giani Gurmukh Singh, the former Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, sought forgiveness for his involvement in the controversial 2015 pardon granted to Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim. The Singh Sahiban accepted his plea with strict conditions: he must perform voluntary service (sewa) of dishwashing and in the shoe house at Sri Guru Ramdas Ji Langar for one hour each daily for 11 days, along with Gurbani recitations. Additionally, he must offer Karah Prasad worth Rs 1, 100 at Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

Balbir Singh Dismissed for Immoral Conduct

In a zero-tolerance move, Balbir Singh, an employee of Gurdwara Sri Rakabganj Sahib, was dismissed from all Panthic services after being found guilty of immoral behavior involving a female employee within Gurdwara premises. The Five Singh Sahiban ruled that his actions violated the sanctity of the Gurdwara and breached the Sikh code of conduct. He has been permanently barred from serving in any Sikh institution.
